Formation
On August 1, 1879 Henry Clay Hays started the original law practice and later he and Samuel J. Wright formed a partnership.

In 1946 C. Blaine Hays, Jr., son of C. Blaine Hays, joined the firm.

Arville L. Funk joined the firm following the death of C. Blaine Hays, Jr. in 1964.
Firm Name Change
In 1966 C. Blaine Hays, Sr., Frank L. O’Bannon and Arville L. Funk formed a new partnership known as Hays, O’Bannon & Funk.
Senator O’Bannon
In 1970 Frank L. O’Bannon was elected Indiana State Senator and served from 1971 through 1988.
New Partner
In 1980 Ronald W. Simpson joined the firm and the firm became known as O’Bannon, Funk & Simpson.
In 1986 Ronald W. Simpson was elected Harrison County Prosecutor and served from 1987 through 2002.
Lieutenant Governor O’Bannon
In 1988 Frank L. O’Bannon was elected Lieutenant Governor of Indiana.
New Partner
In 1990 G. Patrick Thompson joined the firm following the death of Arville L. Funk and the firm became known as Simpson & Thompson.
Governor O’Bannon
In 1996 Frank L. O’Bannon was elected Governor of Indiana and served until his death in 2003.

On October 5, 2007 Simpson, Thompson, Colin, was awarded the prestigious “Century Business Award” by Governor Mitch Daniels
